Who owns the building?
In 2004, Touie and Denise Smith bought the Liberty Theatre in the hope of restoring it. The Friends of the Liberty Theatre work with the owners to secure the future of the building.

When will movies start?
Soon! With support from the NSW Government, movies will be screened in Yass once more later in 2025.

How can I help?
We are a volunteer run charity. You can get involved by becoming a member, volunteering or donating.

What is the timeline for the next phases?
We are currently focussed on ensuring quality cinema and theatre returns to Yass. If you are interested in our longer-term plans, please email us at info@libertytheatre.com.au

How do you keep my donor information safe?
We treat your donor information seriously. We only collect the necessary information to facilitate your donation. We collect your contact information and store it on our maintained servers based in Australia. We only collect credit card information to process donations and sponsorships and do not save your information on our servers. You can view our Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions of Use.

I want to give more than one donation. How can I make more of a difference?
Thank you for considering the opportunity to help us promote the arts, education and history in the Yass Valley. Monthly giving can make a real difference, helping us to plan ahead and give artists certainty to unlock their full potential. Additionally, leaving a gift in your Will is a powerful way to support the vibrant cultural scene that our regional community needs and support, paving the way for a brighter future.

What can I expect after donating?
We would love to keep you updated with all the important work the Friends of the Liberty Theatre is doing. We will contact you to update you on progress, upcoming events and our impact. We also aim to provide you with an overview of current events, activities, volunteer opportunities and research results.

Is the building heritage listed?
The theatre is a locally protected heritage asset, listed on the Yass Valley Local Environment Plan. The National Trust has also assesses the building as highly significant.

Are you restoring the building?
In time we hope to make the theatre good as new. Currently, we conduct minor heritage conservation and restoration with the support of our donors.

Is the building structurally safe?
Yes. Safety is a priority for the Friends of the Liberty Theatre. Engineering reports have reassured us that the 1930s building remains safe for use.

Are there any examples of successfully refurbished venues?
This year, the historic art deco Roxy Theatre in Leeton was successfully reopened with help from the NSW Government.
